Documenting A Day

During week 2 I was tasked to work with the word processing application, Microsoft Word, the spreadsheet application, Microsoft Excel, and the presentation application, Microsoft Power Point. I have worked with these applications multiple times before in classes and even during my daily job, but every time I am tasked to work with these applications I learn something new each time. From Microsoft, “A word processor is a device or software program capable of creating, storing, and printing text documents.” (Microsoft, What is A Word Processor?, Para. 1). The Microsoft Word application is a useful tool to use if a person is looking to create a text document to express their work. A spreadsheet application is more used for data and formula based work. A spreadsheet application will allow the user to show their work more visually than a word processor application would. Lastly, a presentation application is a more visual form application, allowing the user to display their work and creativity. For my Documenting A Day assignment I found using a a word processor application to be most useful, but the spreadsheet application of Excel gave more information like percentage of the day towards single activities. A word processor application would be used more for a paper oriented assignment. The spreadsheet application is mostly used to show a capture date in a column and row format. Nicole LaMarco from the Caron newsletter stated, “Excel spreadsheets can support more than a million rows and more than 16,000 columns, so youll have plenty of space to store a huge amount” (LaMarco, 2019, What is the Purpose of Using a Spreadsheet?, para. 2). Lastly, the presentation application type would be most used for projects that are trying to not go into great detail (they can be in needed), but display and show the topic at hand.
